B&D Plumbing Builds on a Solid Foundation with Deerwood Bank

B&D Plumbing Builds on a Solid Foundation with Deerwood Bank

For more than 40 years, B&D Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning has served Minnesota communities with top-tier plumbing and HVAC solutions. Founded in 1982, B&D has evolved from a residential new construction provider into a full-service Residential & Commercial: New Construction, Remodel, Restoration and 24/7 Service business with over 130 team members.

As a third-generation, family-run company deeply rooted in the St. Michael community, B&D prides itself on integrity, dependability, and giving back. They’re known as one of the top employers in St. Michael, where family members—fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, cousins—work side-by-side. With such deep local ties, B&D’s commitment to community values aligns perfectly with Deerwood Bank’s community-first approach.

A Longstanding Relationship Built on Trust

Before Deerwood Bank’s 2024 acquisition of Community Development Bank, B&D had already been a loyal customer for many years, building strong relationships with the team and then President, Nick Shultz. They trusted that the same level of service would continue after the merger—and according to Tracy Daleiden, Co-Owner of B&D, it did, along with access to valuable new services and deeper banking expertise.

New Services, Added Expertise

One of the biggest improvements for B&D came through Deerwood Bank’s Treasury Management services. The Treasury Management team, Tammy Koop and Matt Cousino, introduced solutions designed to boost efficiency and protect the company’s bottom line:

  • ACH Origination & Remote Deposit – Enabled B&D to handle deposits and ACH transfers remotely, saving time and increasing operational focus.
  • Insured Cash Sweep (ICS) – Consolidated accounts while maximizing FDIC coverage and interest earnings. “It brought security and peace of mind,” said Claire Cullinan, B&D’s Operations and HR Director. “Our account balances are secure and earning a higher rate of interest.”
  • Positive Pay (Check & ACH) – Enhanced fraud prevention. “We’ve already caught a fraudulent check with Positive Pay, which saves us time and hassle later,” Tracy shared.
  • Merchant Services – Restructured credit card processing with Level 2 processing, cutting fees by 13–18% and improving cash flow. “We’re saving 13–18% just from fees on that,” said Claire. Cousino personally visited B&D’s office to ensure a smooth setup.

“These solutions are really customized for exactly what we need,” Tracy says. “They proactively brought us these new services that they believed would help our business, and they were right.”

Even more than the services themselves, B&D appreciated the personal attention they received. “We had a pre-meeting. They told us what to expect, and then they made it happen. It was seamless,” said Claire. “And, when we need it, they always answer the phone. That kind of reliability is rare.”

Looking Ahead, Together

B&D Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning is currently building a new facility just minutes from their current location to accommodate growth and increase efficiencies.

“When we looked into financing our new building, we didn’t even consider other banks,” said Claire. “When you have a solid relationship like we do with Nick and Deerwood, why go anywhere else?”

The impact of working with Deerwood Bank has been both immediate and lasting. With centralized accounts, improved fraud protection, and better access to working capital, B&D is more financially secure and operationally efficient.

“As my husband and I transition this business to the next generation, it’s incredibly important to us that they’re in a good position for both stability and growth,” Tracy said. “So much is changing—technology, trades—but the relationships remain.”

Today, B&D continues to build, expand, and hire, while staying grounded in their core mission of service and stewardship. “It’s not just about us,” Claire said. “It’s about our employees, our community, and the families we serve.”
