Deerwood Bank Promotes Markman and Shultz to Regional President Roles

Deerwood Bank Promotes Markman and Shultz to Regional President Roles

Waite Park, MN – Deerwood Bank is pleased to announce the promotion of Mike Markman to Northern Regional President and Nick Shultz to Southern Regional President. The appointments are part of an organizational restructuring designed to strengthen leadership, improve alignment across markets, and support the bank’s continued growth across Minnesota.

As Deerwood Bank expands its presence throughout the state, the new regional model provides enhanced leadership support while preserving the local decision-making and relationship-focused service customers have come to expect.

Under the new structure, Deerwood Bank will operate through two regions:

North Region, led by Markman, includes Baxter, Brainerd, Bemidji, Deerwood, Garrison, Grand Rapids, Blackduck, Northome, and Ogema.

South Region, led by Shultz, includes Sartell, Waite Park, St. Michael, Mendota Heights, and St. Paul.

The addition of Regional Presidents strengthens collaboration across markets, enhances leadership capacity, and ensures decisions remain closely connected to the customers and communities the bank serves.

“This new structure creates exciting opportunities for Deerwood Bank,” said John Ohlin, President and CEO of Deerwood Bank. “By organizing around northern and southern regions, we’re creating stronger connections between our markets, improving collaboration across teams, and increasing our ability to respond quickly to local needs. The structure allows us to remain community-focused while positioning the bank for future growth.”

The reorganization also enables executive leadership to devote greater attention to long-term strategy, business development, customer relationships, and community engagement while providing employees with additional support and leadership resources.

“For many years, Deerwood Bank has grown by building meaningful relationships and remaining deeply connected to our communities,” Ohlin added. “This transition allows us to preserve those values while creating new opportunities for our employees, customers, and the communities we serve.”

The new regional model reflects Deerwood Bank’s continued investment in its people, customers, and communities, while creating a leadership framework designed to support sustainable growth for years to come.

“Our mission remains unchanged,” said Ohlin. “We are, and always will be, a community bank focused on relationships, local engagement, and helping our customers succeed. This structure strengthens our ability to deliver on that commitment.”
